This is Ocian. You might remember her from this or this .

She is a nationally ranked junior hurdler. She has many letters from US colleges. She comes from good pedigree, her parents were both National Track & Field team members.

Ocian amd her mom, Kerry , have helped me extensively with some of my photos.
I chose this because of the story behind it. I know none of you will know that when voting, :)

Thanks to her whole family.

Thx for votes and comments

This is brilliant. One of my favorite portraits I have ever seen on this site. She has the beauty of a model but your composition and treatment of her in this shot conveys a much more human image than that of the normal portrait of a beautiful woman.

Other things I love about this capture: The bird. The sun shining from just outside the frame. To me it conveys a feeling that she is not quite to her goals but that she is on her way and she is looking at it head on. I also think the clouds and the sky give it an etherial feel that is just brilliant. Excellent PP as well. It is plain to see that this shot was done by a professional who cares deeply about the art of Photography.

I would also like to admit that I am deeply jealous that I have neither the eye, nor the talent to pull of such an amazing portrait. Maybe someday, I hope.

I know that look, usually found on my daughters face at the start of each athletic event. Glad it made the top ten one of my favourites.

She is so powerful to look at, I didn't notice the bird in the sunrays until now. Congrats on your well-earned top 10.

I can't believe not one person commented about the border. Almost EVERY single time I use this border style in a challenge, which has been a lot lately, somebody has to comment how they DON'T like it.

The look of determination on her face is fantastic, and I really love the seagull with the sun behind. Really good shot.

Very 'ESPN The Magazine' like. The gull is an extra special addition.

This would be a magazine ad; wonderful execution and pp. (voted earlier)

Leaving so much open space in the middle of this image was an inspired decision. It adds to the suspense, the anticipation. A blank canvas, the sky's the limit, and all that. Nice.

For a style I have no interest in this is surprisingly interesting! You've taken all the things I tend to dislike (colour, weird border, alien processing, bromidic visual gag and cheesy title ... and you've made me like the result very much. Which is quite an achievement. This is certainly going on my imaginary wall for 2010. Thank you.

She stands alone, strong and determined, powerful. I almost missed the bird altogether...maybe not even needed, could be better cropped out.

This is very cool! And I think I've found your shot Leo :) I remember her from link on your Sports IV shot, cause you beat me :) Hehe. Checking now, it doesn't help that you've hid them now, but the thumbnails are still showing up! An excellent shot, and I love your post processing. How do you do it?

stunning, but a little flat for my taste. i think if you had more space to the right of the seagull it would work well compositionally. I also can't help craving something solid in the background.
the lighting on the girl, on the other hand, is spectacular.
good job!

I can feel a big dynamic. she looks so beautiful and ambitiously. You've chosen just the right point of view. And the bird is the icing of the cake! Perfect! - I wonder if this is Leos image? - Good luck!
