When I first read the challenge this is the image that popped in my head – our dog vigilantly watching out the front windows on the lookout for unseen dangers lurking.
My concerns:
1) A photo of the family pet will be viewed as too cutesy or lazy. I worked hard on an alternative idea that did not come out as well.
2) The window and other junk in the background is a huge distraction (although I like the dog’s stature somewhat echoing the dragon statue). I took some more from behind the dog, but they did not seem to communicate the same level of alertness and the stuff out the window was distracting.
3) That many people envision a sentinel as a solitary figure or object towering over everything. However, this was the first image I got thinking of the word sentinel.
That said I am not unhappy with the result. Of course, I love that mutt so I may be biased.
Taken with natural light on a nice overcast day.

LOVE this! What a delightful photograph! Wonderful light on the dog, and I do love that statue echoing the stance in the distance. Definitely not too much here - it all fits wonderfully. An excellent tiny violin! (Fret not the lost 6 - this is worth way more than a 6. Seriously.)

I didn't vote, but saw this during the challenge and thought it was great. It reminds me of my dog. He lays on the back of the couch with his nose under the curtains.

You almost hit that goal of a 6+. It shouldn't be long now.

perhaps a few too many objects in the background, but the colours mesh nicely and set off the dog's posture.

This is just too good. I love the statue in the background in relation to the dog. The lighting is perfect.
