Wow. The member challenge certainly got a lot more feedback than the open challenge, but here's some more for ya...
You obviously have a very nice photo here. Competition was stiff in this challenge.
Composition is great. I am so glad that we have the new cropping rules because this is an excellent example of where a rectangular shot just wouldn't be as strong. The diagonal and placement of the open link are great. Part of what makes this image so strong is how close you got to the subject. Exposure is good. You've made an interesting photo out of a mundane object which is quite an accomplishment.
Minor gripes: The lack of focus in the bottom right corner is distracting - especially because it is one of the few light colored spots and, therefore, draws the eye. Overall, I wonder if the focus couldn't be even sharper. Texture shots don't often work well with post-processing sharpening, but maybe you could have tried something different during shooting. It is helpful if you include the aperture, shutter, and iso in the photo details.
I agree with the frame comments. I'm not sure that such a bright color is the best choice - especially since it further accentuates that lower corner.

A fantastic shot. Love the colours. My no.1 for this challenge.

You have made this otherwise overlooked chain into an attention grabber, but it just doesn't keep my interest. Quite short term, but good job.

Great colors and composition!

Impacting image. Great feel.

Nice colors and textures here. The white border is a bit harsh, I might have tried something a little less bright for this picture. Good capture of details and nice composition. = 8

Wow! Amazing colours and textures here! The composition is really tight. The slightly shallow DOF gives the photo that added dimension of depth. I love that the light is soft enough to bring out every detail. All that rust and erosion is very tactile... I can imagine what it would feel like if I touched it. Looking at this is a blissful experience :). 10!

nice pic. i like the colors and the angle.

i just like this photo....

Very well done photo, but I've never liked rust shots. (my bad, I'll try to be better!) Very good color, focus, framing. Tell you what, I scored you a 6, but I'll bump that one point for bias factor and hope that helps. 7 Swash

Good subject. Your lens appears to get a little soft at the corners. Perhaps stopping down a bit would help sharpen them up.

This is a great still life shot. You can really see the textures of the chain.

Very nice photo. Great texture and color. Out of focus foreground slightly distracting. Perhaps could have been remedied by using a smaller aperture or pulling back a bit and cropping.
12/11/2002 01:19:18 PM
The textures on this are superb, as are the colours. My only complaint would be that the focus doesn't feel quite right, but that may be due to a limitation of the camera.
12/11/2002 12:27:55 PM
A good photo. Well taken. Interesting colours. The composition is also good. (7)
By the way, I had probably made a black or dark brown border. But THAT is a matter of taste.

Such wonderful texture! This is one of the best macro shots I have seen in a long time.

Great texture, great focus, great crop job, great photo. This is awesome. You can almost feel and smell the rust. You feel like you are right there. Fantastic job.

great focus and clarity... you can feel the rust!
12/10/2002 08:43:38 PM
A ton of texture! Good eye.

Great compostion, what spoils it a bit for me is the lower right conner being a bit out of focus. A great image, nevertheless.

excellent shot... love the diagonal... the detail is excellent as well :) - setzler

Awesome detail on these links. Shot is in my tops. I like how it is cropped.

Beautiful colors. These feel as if they are huge, like part of a ship or something. I like the angle of the composition. A really nice shot. DPz

Great texture in this picture. Looks like it might be a slight bit grainy on the top of hte picture. Overall nice picture.

very well done macro.......I would have liked more chain so as to tell a story or add to the interest.
12/09/2002 08:26:01 PM
Wow, I really like this!!! But I've always been a big fan of textures and abstracts and here we have both of them! I'm sure the high-res picture would be an even bigger feast for the eyes. Definately something I'd hang in my apartment! Love the square crop, not used often, and compositionally - well all lines in the picture are visually appealing... I just can't find anything to complain about. Well, I'm not a member, so my vote would have been 10, and this is definately my favorite of the competition. Best of luck!!
12/09/2002 08:07:20 PM
nice texture...the focus needs to be better in the foreground. It appears to be a little oversaturated and sharpened.
12/09/2002 07:57:19 PM
You have done a great job capturing this shot. The composition and colors are perfect.
12/09/2002 05:40:56 PM
Fantastic rust. Good composition, color.
12/09/2002 03:04:49 PM
Excellent macro shot. I love the colors and the textures.
12/09/2002 02:31:32 PM
Very nice DOF. I like how the chain is in good focus and the surroundings are softer focus, putting the visual focus directly onto the chain. The angle and framing/cropping are good. I like the strong diagonal. Color and lighting are very nice as well. What a great find. Good luck in the challenge.
12/09/2002 01:34:50 PM
I love the colour-well done
12/09/2002 11:29:35 AM
What fantastic texture and colour and a great composition too.
12/09/2002 10:46:37 AM
I like this. I almost submitted a rusty chain, and am now glad I didn't. Your composition is very good, with strong diags. The color and texture are both excellent. Good work, and one of my faves.
12/09/2002 08:35:12 AM
I love the colors and texture of this. Your use of leading line ect is right on ! Shiiizzzam
