Hopefully people will understand my concept here. I meant to use the negative space (the sky and snow) to isolate me and the mountain, which is all that exists in your mind. I appear rather small in the frame, and I'm HOPING people can still tell I'm a person and not a tree (obviously looks a lot better with fullsize).
This wasn't my original idea for this challenge. My other idea involved a trip to approximately the same remote location, but was botched due to snowmobilers and their disturbance of the snow surface. This dawned on me once I saw my initial idea was out of question. To capture it, I set my camera to interval shooting, and had it shooting from another part of the ridge about a third of a mile away or so. The camera took a photo every 30 seconds. The winds were very high here, and a lot of my shots were not suitable because I was partially or completely obscured by blowing snow. At its worst, the wind gusted to approximately 65mph, and I was momentarily unable to stand on the ridgeline. It was a sustained 30mph though, and per my thermometer temperatures were between 7 and 10, making windchill on average between -12 and -19. I love getting into the thick of bad weather in the wilderness :)
For giggles, here's what I looked like up close.
It was a long day, and between the drive and reaching the location by snowshoe, it took about 8 hours of travel. A great trip regardless, and even if this doesn't score all that well, I'm pleased with the result. If you've read this far, thank you.

Perfect for the challenge. Why it scored so badly? Who knows?

Gee, you do good work, Derek. I can hardly wait for another DPL...

im honestly surprised this didn't do well in scoring. 16 1s and 2s? that's like the scoring for one of MY shots...:)

the story associated with it is excellent, thanks for taking the time to write it all down and share it.

I am greatly intrigued. Sorry that this does not come off nearly so well as I suspect it does at full size.

This is very nicely processed. Gives a good feeling of cold and frozen.

A bold and risky choice. For me, just a mite too hi-key.
