Challenge: In The Style Of: librodo (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Canon EOS-30D
Lens: Tamron SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di for Canon

Hard to let an advanced edit portrait challenge go by without entering. I had done some test shots with Rowan in preparation for shooting a couple of girls from our congregation (see Aimee's entry for one of them). I had no intention of entering Rowan. I started editing up one of the test shots of Rowan and i was liking it but it was missing something. My shots of the girls didn't come out like I was hoping (though Aimee got several rocking images) so I had Aimee do some makeup on Rowan and took her back into the studio. I think I was able to capture a Librodo style image here and I had a ton of fun editing it up. And Rowan had a blast playing dress up with the makeup (she never gets to wear lipstick and the white sticker beads on here eye she ran around with on for hours afterward). Hoping this scores well even though it will be recognizable.

Looking back at past entries. Here is my first two DPC images of Rowan back just shy of 5 years ago - . We have come a long way baby!

And now I see that Librodo himself will be commenting on all of the images. I can't say that i have ever gotten a Librodo comment. Looked at his comments and favorites and he actually has my original Tooth Fairy in there. How cool is that? Looking forward to hearing what he thinks. I hope I served him well.

POst challenge - Whooh hooh!!! Four weeks ina row of ribboning in Open challenges. The streak wont continue though as I didnt enter this week.

Below is the original that is a straight RAW conversion with no tweaks. Let it be known that when it comes to me taking pics of my little girl for our home, my editing is nowhere near this heavy. But for this challenge my goal was to create an image that had the Librodo feel. Rowan was my model, but the image was not meant to capture her but to create something else. As lovely as this image is, I would not print it out for our walls. And also let it be known - I LOVE HER FRECKLES!!!

As far as the actual editing steps - there was a ton, but mostly relegated to the basics - dodge and burn, minor cloning, healing, blur and sharpening and various color adjustments. Really nothing freaky - just very detailed with a specific goal in mind.

I really love this shot. Do you mind telling me how you edited it to get the vibrance of the final image?

Tim...you have got yourself an amazing little model here. I love her look and expression, her eyes just draw me in, and the slight downward angle of the head gives her a very emotive expression. I always enjoy seeing your kids in the challenges. I often use my own daughters as well. Great image, tell Rowan she did amazing!! Congrats on a great score and another blue.

Congrats on the blue. The model and the final product are both beautiful. And, just having that time with your daughter is the best part, I know because my daughter is my favorite model.

Congratulations! To me, this was obviously going to win blue. It is a beautiful creation and I'm not surprised that your daughter enjoyed herself so much - any little girl's dream I would think.

Congrats Tim. Although it's DNMC. I would call that "Librodo-Ursula-Judi-ized". :P

First of all let me say that I *love* the composition, color, facial expression, lighting, and the general soft feel. It's a beautiful, expressive image.
I do think that you went *way* too far in the processing of the skin. She looks plastic.

I'm so glad you posted your unedited image. It shows us that these shots are not ONLY about the editing steps--your unedited image is a super shot too.
I do tend to agree with some of the other commentators, though, that the lip stick was perhaps a bit too much. Though that's perhaps Manny's style, so who are we to fault you? Great work!

Everything is good. the light, the comp, the colours. The thing that strikes me is the oversmoothing of her skin and the whites of her eyes maybe too white? I am sure it will be near the top.

This is really lovely. I really get a sense of flowing with the material you use, it grabs my eyes and leads me right to her face. The skin and eyes are well done and I love the little details you used. I think this will finish right up there but either way you have an image to be very proud of.

I keep coming back to this shot, I don't know why but i feel bad about my comment and I keep wanting to word it correctly so as not to hurt anyone. I like it overall, there is just sometihg in the overly smooth skin and eyes that almost take this into the realm of digital art. not that i dont like the shot itself but i dont like it for this challenge, if that makes sense.
I think you are aware of this as i think your title is a bit tongue-in-cheek. i am pretty sure at this point this is Tim's shot so i am thinking you prob got thick enough skin to take my comment...lol ok i am going to stop being obsessive now :) at any rate a solid 7 from me

I expect that this one will ribbon, timfy. Like you haven't been ribboning enough recently :-P
This is absolutely amazing and stunning! And a perfect representation of librodo. At first I was taken a back with all of the makeup on your daughter (she certainly doesn't need it!), but it does fit the style. 10
