Been a while since I entered a challenge, but I've never unleashed full blown Photoshop mojo on DPC before, and this seemed like a good opportunity.

I shot the moon with a 100-400mm lens and 1.4X TC piggybacked on an 8" SCT telescope (the specs listed below are for the superman and dog shots). My first attempt was Friday night. It was overcast and I was lucky to get anything at all, but ended up using one of those shots for the glow around the moon. Last night was perfectly clear, so I was able to get some sharp moon photos and a rich star field to use for the background.

Then I donned a Superman costume that I already had from a school project years ago and took hundreds of shots in front of a black muslin using an IR remote in my left hand. I had a bright monolight positioned in the spot where the moon would go and a dim one in front for fill. A 10 minute photo session with the dog provided plenty of wolfman fur.

Editing highlights: the eyes are mine- I just horizontally scaled them and colorized the whites. The ears are actually a manipulated shot of my dog's paw. The hand is a single photo of my dog's paw that I distorted and stretched with CS5's "puppet warp" to make each finger, then added claws from yet another photo. Lots of work, but a fun result!
