Built in 1968, this ship has had a number of names. Originally the SS Indian Mail, it was then the SS President Jackson, and appears to have spent most of it's career as the SS Cape Gibson. It is now a training vessel, moored at Texas A&M in Galveston and named the TS Texas Clipper IV, though the hull is still adorned with the Cape Gibson moniker.

Information I have suggests this is part of the US ready reserve fleet and could be reactivated for service in 5 days.

Ran across this on a visit to Galveston. I was hoping to get some good views of the shipyards there and was quite pleased to find a ship like this that was so accessible for photos.

I'm quite pleased with how this shot turned out. The strong perspective view reminds me of some classic travel posters I have seen.

Post-challenge notes:
In spite of how much I like it, it failed to impress very many people. Win some, lose some.

5.2? Hmm. I didn't think it'd be in your front page, but did think it might be closer to 6 than 5.5. Never thought it'd be closer to 5.
Better luck next time I suppose :)

This score should be decommissioned. It's a great perspective and tack sharp.

As much as you want some foreground, I think this would have benefited from a tighter crop, possibly square. It would be large and in charge then, and the massive ship would feel a bit more massive.
