I'm a bit of a sucker for dark BW shots, as you know, and this one doesn't disappoint. But its darkness is interesting in how fleeting it is. It's as though the dark fears the road, is unable to incur upon it's vitality and life. But this feeling of an illuminated path is left lurking beneath the lonely bits and pieces upon the surface, themselves cold remnants of life seemingly past. Reminds me of fairy tales, warning of the dark and scary forest, of the road home.
You said you mostly take photos on the way to and from work... How I'd love to have a commute of this nature :)

This is a very interesting photograph, something of a technical as well as an aesthetic exercise. The light source, at least in the top half, can surely only have been achieved (and disguised) by an artful use of time. I am going to call you bspurgeon on a provisional basis, and if you're not he after all, then you have a new fan. Because I loved all that this picture offered, and admired the deceptively effortless way it was done. My top pick in the challenge. Thank you.

Lovely dark tones, framing leading lines. Has a definite sense of atmosphere and apprehension.

The lonely road untraveled. A bit melancholy; wonderful dappled light.

Dark and mysterious, were does this meandering road lead. I like the depth of field and the PP suits me fine.

This has such a dark ominous feel.

Love this! The detail of the drops in the front, the line and lighting that leads the eye to wander towards the back...
