I figured that if i took my camera to our house on the lake that I'd find something worthwhile to shoot. I was looking for a lizard that always runs on the deck but then found this guy between two bushes. And as a bonus, he had a grasshopper. He let me get really close. So close that I was able to reverse a 50mm onto my 105 macro lens, and get some insanely close macros of his head.

Congratulations on your 18th placing. A fascination shot with enough detail to keep the eye on the photo. Great work.

I haven't seen one of these spiders in person since I was a kid. Great shot. Focus couldn't have been any more perfect.

Edit: Bumping my score on this one to a 9. Hope you do well in the challenge.

Just looked at another spider photo, similar size, subject, and comp. This is better because it has some nice shadowing to give a 3 dimensional feel to it. Good job.

Wow, what a great catch. I haven't yet been able to get that good of a photo of a spider, so I know how hard it can be. I love the coloring in this guy...

Oh yes now were talking :) Great colours and sharpness. Only downside is it looks a bit untidy behind the spider, his last meal i guess. 9

i do like this pic and I know you can't stage these things, but the spider seems to be getting a bit lost with its prey in the web.i'm just wondering if there was another angle to try ot shoot this from. If only you could have asked it to climb a big higher so it would be on its own, and look at the camera!
