8th May

I was so close to top ten... aaaargh! ^_^

First of all thank you to all the people who voted for this image and gave me some advices. Tanguera maybe you're right about the structure, but I thought the dodging I made on the structure was enough. Wendy I hope your husband is not angry with me right now! ^_^

I'd like to explain something about this photo: the place is in my region, Abruzzo, in the centre of Italy (it's called the green lung of Europe). The Gorges of Sagittarius lead to Scanno (a place very famous thanks to the images of Giacomelli, Cartier-Bresson and many others). Here we are in the municipality of Anversa degli Abruzzi and this little hamlet you can see is Castrovalva. A great dutch painter has spent part of his life here - Maurits Cornelis Escher. One of his most famous works is about Castrovalva. You can see it here:

Umbria is a wonderful region both for its history and its landscape - the cradle of arts and a great place for the ones who love mountains, waterfalls and caves. Which places have you visited there? I hope you've been to Castelluccio di Norcia, one of the best photographic places in the world. Each year in June and July people go there from all over the world to visit it. Its plateau, from an ancient glacial lake, is at 1200 metres a.s.l. and despite its altitude in those months is covered by a carpet of coloured flowers - an amazing view!

Abruzzo is great because we have high mountains, wild places, lakes, green hills and a rich countryside and 200kms of coastline, all in a small region. A lot of places for a photographer.

Ciao
Alex

absolutely stunning! I started off giving this a 9, but considering the fact that I made my husband get up and come over to see it, I bumped it to a 10. :)
