Editing: Crop, levels,slight noise reduction with neat image, some dodging, burning, sharpening and sponging on the ants and aphids, resize, sharpen, save for web.

Taken while we took our dog for a walk along our favorite path near the Conejos River. These ants keep aphids like a farmer would keep cows. They eat the sweet, sticky stuff the aphids poop out.

Composition does not work for me. The small leave sticking forward towards the camera is confusing and it hides one of the ants. There is also too much going on and to much empty spcae around the scene, a slightly closer and different viewpoint might have solved it.

aren't these a pain to shoot? no matter how much you pay them, they won't sit still! try a lot of different angles so that the background won't distract. also, creative cropping can eliminate the uninteresting parts of the photo.
