I bet there will be a lot of flaming shot glasses in this challenge.

[May. 4th, 2011 01:24:48 PM]

OK, so not that many, only 3 including mine, but one of them has the same title as mine.

Coloured water in each glass, lighter fluid floating on top that was lit. I really wish I knew how to get pictures of glass against black with no reflections. I've tried positioning the light source tons of different ways but I just can't get it right.

This was a top three for me; the "figures" in the flames sealed it. This is really good work.

Great shot, Karen. Love the colors and especially the flames. Super work (I must try photographing glass against a black background, it sounds like interesting stuff).

i'm not sure if this is the case or not, but it makes sense in my head:

for black/black without light reflections, you could use a piece of glass/acrylic that is lit from below. If you have a black card as your background it should reflect and create the black/black look, with intense color inside the glasses, and just a bit of a hairlight.

here's something I found:

Love it, Karen. This is a type of photography I've totally given up on because it's so tough. So kudos to you, and congrats on the top 10

Great mood and color achieved here. The arrow head flame adds to the shot. A ribbon contender for sure.

interesting flame/glow. The fire on the right looks like a hand/wrist/fingers.

I think the specular highlight on the front of the glasses is a bit of a distraction and doesn't show the color off well. Also wish the hairlight was a bit more even between the background/foreground plane.
