I was really conflicted about this one. I almost didn't do it. This is an American Girl (if you've had daughters, you'll know) violin, along with my wife's full sized instrument. I experimented with all sorts of different settings and lights, but really didn't like any of the results. This was with natural evening light, on my kitchen table. I had to really lengthen the exposure to get the soft effect I wanted. Harrumph.

Very Nice! Really like the placing in this photograph, i think if you had really gone and shown the full scale of the miniature, you would have lost some of the "aw" factor. Nice job!

Mozart's mini violin. The size of violin i imagine the great composer used during his youth :) Congratulations

Thanks to everyone for their comments during the voting. I knew it was a good idea but didn't like the technical aspects of my composition. A last minute crop probably made the difference. My daughter has since corrected my description - it's not an American Girl violin, just a miniature instrument that she had on shelf of similar trinkets. We have three full-sized instruments in the house (my wife and daughter both play), so I spent two days shooting them in various settings and lighting, this was the best, though I was not completely happy with it as my pre-submission comments indicate.

Good subject choice, neatly carried out, and ideally lit - but it has the look of a catalogue shot, an illustration rather than a dynamic presentation. I think people will regard it as a bit ordinary - competent technical work only takes you so far as regards impact. 6

This image has "everything" going for it. Perfect: exposure, composition, objects, lighting, focus, and yes - emotion. I don't know or care how you got the wood of each instrument to be so similarily colored, but it's great. Even the title is impressive. If you are not French - the use of French words for the image shows true imagination.
