I didn't have much time to come up with an idea and shoot it, since my parents were visiting us for father's day. Light trays looked like a good answer for that challenge, but big cities were too far away, so I decided to create untypical atypical ones.

At first, my parents were quite reluctant, but I managed to get them out in the night on a small road near my house that passes through the woods. They were in their car with my wife, and parked on the side of the road, while I was on my motorbike.

The place was totally dark, so I used the car's light to set the tripod and camera up. I explained my wife what she was supposed to do with the remote shutter (bulb mode), we shut the car's lights down, and I started the bike.

We had to abort a few tries due to other cars passing by (and asking if we had some kind of accident ;-)), but after a dozen of takes, I decided this one was good enough.

The only light in the scene is produced by the bike, with the exception of the headlights at the top, which is a random car coming towards us, but I thought it was a nice add.

I am honestly surprised about how well this picture does, I was expecting something around 6.3-6.5. Thanks a lot for all the nice votes and comments!

Is there ever a week when you don't win a ribbon? I am completely awed by your dedication (even on father's day) combined with your never-ending creativity. =)

Years ago I attended Teacher training college... I never finished - my tutor said "... you are good but you lack that indefinable something that makes a good teacher"

You reminded me of that because well you are a good photographer but you HAVE that indefinable something that makes you an artist. There are a lot of photographers like that but what stands you out is the final piece of the Gyaban jigsaw the indefinable something to technicaly execute what you envision.

Clever idea, well executed, my pick for blue. I do wish you had flashed the bike somewhere along the way to clear up the mystery of what was causing the trail.

I find it very cool how you used a vehicle to light paint the sides of the road.

Obvious tripod use: Very high.

Amazing. The headlights perfectly illuminated the side of the road and the combination of the red and yellow really makes this fiery. Great use of complementary colors also: red and green.
