Bought a cupcake at the bakery, clipped off a 1/2" off the tines of the fork (maybe should have gone more), looked up fake blood recipe on the internet (mostly corn syrup and food coloring), and asked my daughter to wield the fork.

My wife was totally turned off by the image. I suspect some voters will be too. Oh, well. We had fun.

This reminds me a bit of the movie Shine, with Kathy Bates. Cleary it's a very well executed shot. From the lighting to the composition. I'll echo Lydia's Horridly wonderful statement ;) because I feel it's horrible but in a way you kinda like the shot? can't explain it. As for why it's not a 6+. IMHO the shot is on topic with the fork and all but the story told here has it playing a supporting role. And it has some fake blood which made some people wince? which might be the first reason.

Ouch! I'll stick to my dessert then. :P
The title and the picture work very well together to induce the cringe. My top5.

Ouch. Nice visual effect where the fork appears to be *in* the hand. Blood is pretty good - but IMO, falls down in two areas - last run against the hand is too red - should be color of clump just above the run - and the clump above the run has no reason to be there, unless they've been posed like that long enough for the blood to dry / coagulate. Regardless, visual is close enough to fool unless you look at it too long. Also like the single star on the plate. This just makes me wince in pain...
