First time using my extension tubes. This leaf was less than 1cm long.

I really wish this challenge had been basic editing - I would really have liked to crop off the grey at the bottom (the pot in which the little tree is growing).

Okay giantmike, you caught my error there. It was only after I went to bed on the final night for submitting that I realised that the title could cause confusion. Officially it's still very much winter here, but some of my more sheltered plants have been fooled by some unseasonal warm weather and think that spring has come early.

I was half expecting a request for validation because of the title, but so far I haven't had one.

Thanks Jon_H. If you think that's tough, most of the week I wasn't sure this would even finish above 5. After 19 votes it was at 4.68.

Wow tough crowd, this was a 9 from me and I was truly amazed at the final score this received, it would have been a full 10 if it had been cropped like you suggested but for minimal editing I can't see how many people could give such low scores.

Thanks for the explanation :)

By the way, nice job using extension tubes for a first try, especially in minimal editing. I don't know that I would have been so brave considering the extreme shallow depth of field and normally I need a bit of sharpening to really make it pop.

I'm curious, where in this world is July considered spring?
