Location: Palmdale (Lake Los Angeles area), CA
Date: Aug 5, 2011
Aperture: f/16

Headed out to the desert for this challenge to an area called Lake Los Angeles which is East of Palmdale. This is about 15 minutes east of where I took my Diner shot. It is totally in the middle of nowhere and it feels like you are not even in the United States anymore. I was looking to photograph abandoned buildings/houses but I already had this yellow house in mind. I had already done research on this house and even contacted a flickr member for its location with a helpful response. What you see in the front of the photograph is a broken chair/table which I found makes for a more interesting composition. I had nothing to do with placing of the broken chair and table, they were on the scene when I got there so I left them intact and instead tried to move my camera in such a was that would create a more interesting composition. Unfortunately no clouds in the sky like there were in my diner shot because I feel like it would have made this picture a lot more interesting.

The sun had already set but it was still bright enough for me to see what I was doing. It was the spookiest feeling ever being all by myself in the middle of the desert past sunset time. I took a few shots from far away, no problems there. Things started to get really weird when I decided to get close to the house. I went and stood right at the doorway of the house and decided to take a few shots of inside of the house. I set up the camera, go to the live view mode, ready to click, and I get this error message for the first time EVER:

"Err 30: Shooting is not possible, Turn the power switch to off and on again or reinstall the battery"

I turn the camera off and turn it back on again. I take the battery out and put it back in again, and I am about to shoot and I get the same error message again, then I suddenly hear a loud rattling sound from inside of the house. Now I'm thinking that the house doesn't want me take its picture close up. Once that happened, I decided to get the hell out of there as soon as possible. Hey I do believe in ghosts, what can I say ...

Of course as soon as I got back home the camera was working perfectly again and I have not seen that error message since.

One of the better uses of HDR I have seen so far in this challenge.

Love the colors and pp, besides the subject matter. Maybe you could have flatten those tables to the floor not to distract from the house.

The building seems abandoned by society and nature itself. Nice find.

Like: The pretty colourful sky next to this grumpy ground and building. But the building's interesting too.
Dislike: Nothing.

Top three for me. Breathtakingly beautiful, in a postcard sort of way. How isolated and colorful. Please let us know where this is!!!

HDR really suits it and gives it an almost 3-D effect. I'd like to see a version without the broken tables too.
