How could such a fascinating shot end up in 50th place? I had no idea this was yours, but I guess the signs were there. I should have guessed. Nice shot. I have enjoyed gazing into it a lot.

Middle of the pack on your own challenge? You could be forgiven for an equivocal reaction to that.

I noticed that the top pictures were good (duh) but might have been at the top of any other challenge, whereas the bottom 10 or so contained some seriously good gear. It's not unusual, but it seems to stand out a little for this challenge.

So here's why this face in the middle of the crowd deserves to be picked out:
The picture in its original(?) vertical format is technically good and of general high quality in keeping with what we have come to expect from the House of Bear. It is also very obviously a vertical composition. Turned on its side, all the elements become abstract and the composition is perfect, thus slam dunking the horiverzontical concept ball.

After a week of discussion and another week of voting the challenge them is finally explained. Thank you.

It is great how I can see this as totally abstract, shape and color. Nice stuff.

This is terrific! I think if the sky were sky it wouldn't work as well and I'm wondering if I feel the same about the patch of grass, but the whole idea of this is just skewed to perfection and I love the red in the midst. Love it.

The way you've captured this really makes it feel like the foreground block of concrete is falling and crushing the lower portion. Cool effect.

I love doing exactly what you did...turning photos the 'wrong way' or flipping them upside down. Many times, it's silly and just looks like a mistake, other times it can really bring a wonderful new extraordinary vision to something otherwise overlooked. I think you've done exactly that in this case. The composition, shapes and textures become much stronger when turned. My only minor criticism is that it feels a little too sharpened to me. Great job.

Interesting and disorienting. Pleasing abstract blocks of a nice array of textures -- grass, concrete, asphalt, brick...
