I have no illusions of grandeur for this entry. I imagine this challenge will be filled with people shots, but I don't have any of those old clothes, so that wasn't a possibility.
Instead, I went for a scene which I could see being used in an intro or as a cut scene for one of these movies. I can just imagine the detective driving up to this old house with the lights off and the shades pulled, wondering what kind of mystery he will find inside.
I waited until a day with some cloud cover after sunset, which was actually extremely difficult. Recently ass soon as the clock hits around 6-7pm all the clouds disappear and leave the sky a blank canvas, which in my mind ruins the mood of mystery. Luckily on Monday night some of the clouds stuck around (most left, again) and I was able to head downtown to this old house I knew of from past photo trips into the city. The gardens of this house are open to the public, so I knew it was safe to hang around here and get some photos. In the end I liked this angle the best, as it most reminded me of the view many of these old movies have, and includes just enough context to setup the scene.

* Dodge the sky
* Dodge the dark clouds to reduce haloing
* Burn the line of haloing around the peak of the house
* Export as TIFF

* Sharpen edges
* Save as JPEG |
