Challenge: Vanishing Point (Basic Editing I)
Camera: Canon PowerShot G5
Location: Lake Ellesmere, Canterbury, New Zealand.
Date: Aug 8, 2004
Aperture: F/8.0
ISO: 50
Shutter: 1/319 ?!
Galleries: Landscape
Date Uploaded: Aug 10, 2004

Hand held shot at Lake Ellesmere, a few k's from home. The lake is quite high at the moment due to some heavy rain (There is no natural outflow for the lake) and so this fence is a bit more underwater than I would have liked. Still I think it shows a vanishing point quite well.

Editing was rotate, crop, scale, saturation curves, USM in the gimp. No border this time, going for minimal :-).

Thanks folks,

My first top 10, and it's all the better for me as it's a 'real' photo, not posed for dpc.

Voted eralier, returning for comments.

meets the challenge and becomes a heathy alternative to the roads and tracks. A beautiful scene to boot with a consistent wonderful blue. Bumping from 5 to 6.

Excellent composition, awsome colors. This feels like the challenge was made to celebrate this photo and not the photo taken for the challenge. I wish it ribbon. 10 from me.

bottom left sticks detract from the simplicity of this shot. Otherwise great.

Very nice! I like the reflections. I find the stick in the water a bit distracting though.

I like this shot but wish the log in the lower left corner wasn't there. It's a little distracting but still a nice find. Good luck.

This is a beautifully evocative image. The lonely twisted fence, the expanse of water, the isolated shrubs on the left, just beautiful. I think a few alternative crops might have enhanced it though. I think the submerged stick on lower left is somewhat distracting - but cropping the left would have removed the nice shrubs. Cropping the bottom would have removed the reflection of the foreground post. Ah, what to do. I'd also like to maybe see some levels adjustment to see if the sky could "pop" more. Anyway, beautiful shot! 8.

I can't tell if this is the vanishing point effect, or if the ground is just sloping down under the water. It's a really nice picture, though. 6

Makes me wonder why anyone would put barbed wire on water-bound fenceposts? Really good pic, though.

Excelent setting! Nice reflections on the water! Maybe if the light would have been more dim (sun down) the colours would have been incredible.

This would have been much better if you've had cropped the left half of it off, the right half is great, and that half alone would make a simple and very good photo. But not that it's bad as it is.
