lined up 5 small balloons filled with a 50/50 paint mix, hung from a 2x4. Used my homemade audio/photogate trigger in audio mode to delay fire from the shot of my bb gun. Used a "snapshot II" DJ strobe from bottom right.

BTW, I only used 5 balloons for the whole shoot. I had many test shots to get the delay box tuned in; But only burst the balloons on this image.

I would like to redo it once I get my Post-processing skills in order.

[Sep. 2nd, 2011 08:13:48 PM]

I used all orange balloons with different colored paint to show the contrast as the skin of the balloon ripped away. If it was the same color you wouldn't be able to tell it was ripping apart...

The title is catchy as is the image. Very imaginative.

That's very cool. How many times did it take to get that?

Incredible technical achievement, but the lighting and colors seem dull and flat.

Arrgh, now I can see what you have done here, and I can`t even begin to imagine how hard it was to pull this shot off - so on meeting the challenge you have totally nailed it - however my problem lies with the overall quality of the image - it just doesnt work for me - it really kills the image that I daresay took ages to setup and capture but I usually score on both subject and overall image quality - and thats where I am struggling here... If the processing had been on the ball and the image excited me then it would of been a ten all the way - however I really need to stick to my usual voting methodology to be fair to the the entries... Gonna have to give you a 7 here, but so annoyed as this could of been spectacular. PM me, would love to know who shot this. 7 (with a heavy heart)..

Great idea, especially with the colored water. I think this could be improved slightly if the water color was the same as the balloon color, but still nice.
