Ummm...

well....

This is actually an outtake...

I really wanted to get a seagull shot for the lens flare challenge. I went out over a 2 day period, and took about 850 shots. Got flare? NO!

The overexposed area in this shot is actually the sun. I hope I didn't hurt the sensor (or my eyes :) because I shot into the sun for almost all of the 850 shots.

I had a shot with flare:

but didn't like it.

Had a cool overblown funky shot -- but no flair:

and a nice one with a sun star -- but no flare:

While I was out on one of the days, I also shot for some stopped motion entries:

However, my favorite was this entry -- with the sun in the shot, I had to adjust the exposure up quite a bit, but I was so incredibly pleased with the result.

Thanks so much for the votes and all the wonderful comments! There's some incredible photos in this challenge, so I'm guessing this might be my first "7 without a ribbon" entries. I'm excited to see what takes it in the end. :)

oh -- btw, I'm typing all of this, simply because I didn't go with a bird shot for the lens flare. So I figured it was safe giving the background on this. :)

I see you have a stamp now! Cool! But what I want to know is how you got such exceptional detail in the bird AND the sky without all sorts of artifacting? I am in awe.

I'm gonna ask Ken if I can borrow his stamp. This is getting too regular to keep typing "Congrats" so often... But, I love it that you're winning.

THIS is wonderful, Wendy!

I really liked this one-
The gull looks so haggard and the positioning of the wings really make it have a totally different feel from many bird photos, not only of your own but just in general. Very nice.

WOW. What a great photo! I love the way that the bird is almost symmetrical (except its head is tilted). The feathers looks just great, brown feathers gives nice little contrast to this image. Meets very nicely the challenge also. Brilliant, 9
