I knew this wasn't possible b/c i've been practicing shooting hummers all summer. One thing which was helpful to me is i ck'd out your settings on other shot's u've posted and learned to > shutter even more than i have been. Summers coming to close so no more hummer shots til next yr.

He used flashes. There's no way possible to freeze the action like this with shutter speed alone.

William, fantastic! I didn't vote, but you'd get a 10 from me.

You are right! Hummingbird's wings are way too fast to be stopped motion by shutter. You will see some motion blur even with 1/1000 shutter speed.

Fantastic capture!! Love it.

So beautifully done!! I can't believe you're able to stop motion with 1/125. That even blurs seagulls. Are you using flash to stop it?

(Ooops, just read the other comments. :)

How anybody could give this less than 6 is beyond me. It's a spectacular image. Huge congratulations on the capture and result.
Magnificent. Didn't vote in this challenge, but it would have gotten 9 or 10 from me no doubt.

Unless he used a few external flashes at very low power - then it's possible.

awesome, you must have a place where they come all the time and worked for this or you do it for a living, another one that I could see in a gallery of bird photos.

Superb detail...cant imagine how you managed to catch this. Sure folks will probably ding you for not using ROT, but I think the composition works. Very nice, fully expect to see this on the front page.
