Photoshopped!

[Sep. 16th, 2011 01:24:59 PM]

I am not overly excited about the processing of this image, mainly because I looked at it for so long and see all the flaws.

I intentionally made the front model slightly different from the "reflection." I didn't want the front model to be identical with the back model. I wanted them to be slightly different so when the viewer studies the image, he picks up on the differences.

I did however, want the trinkets and hand to be the same. The key (not necklace), heart and hand are identical - copied from the front to the back. The other parts of the model are different - different position of the head and necklace, slightly different arm position, etc.

I am hoping the differences and similarities are enough to intrigue the viewer and cause them to really wonder how the image was created.

Definitely my highest scoring so far! All positive comments. I'm happy that people aren't seeing all the flaws I see!

This score is wonderful. I appreciate all the positive comments, including the one saying the image is real! It sounds like I met the challenge.

With this score I may end up on the front page for the 30D!

[Sep. 17th, 2011 12:16:38 PM]

The revealing differences between these two models that I can see are as follows:
1) Necklace position.
2) Amount of face that is visible.
3) Key position relative to right shoulder blade.
4) Amount of right ear/hair visible.
5) Angle of left upper-arm.
6) Amount of light falling on left side, behind arm.
7) Upper portion of right shoulder strap.

The thing I like about all of these differences is that at first glance, they seem to be attributable to a mere change in position of viewing angle, which may be possible with a mirror setup.

I'm spending too much time on this picture! :-D

***** POST CHALLENGE *****

My first ribbon! I also made the front page for the 30D!

Thanks for all the comments. I'm glad I was able to "fool" so many of you!

Woohoo!

Congrats on your first blue!
First I thought it is the mirror positioning and selective editing then I looked up your notes. Clever indeed!

Look at that score distribution. Even the trolls didn't vote this anything less than a 5.

Congrats on the ribbon. Beutiful image.

Love the subtlety of the image. My first reaction is ok...nothing weird here. Then I stopped and did a double take. "That's not right..."
Probably the exact reaction you were going for :)

Great job and congrats on your first ribbon!

Hmmm, I like how you didn't use the same image in the mirror. Or it could be a hole in the wall with another woman behind it...

real... nice job

This one is my favourite - well done!. I would say it is real, because the posture/chains aren't identical, but then again you could have done that just to fool us. In either case, I love the feel, the mood, the tones, as well as the idea.

This is so trippy! I'm going to guess photoshopped, but it's so obvious...almost too obvious.... I am almost tempted to say that it's real. =)

So I'm looking back at this...The girl in the mirror is different from the girl in front of your camera. Is it too late to change my answer to real????????????????????

Real. The one in the mirror was a printed image.

09/17/2011 06:43:30 PM
Not real, unless they've changed the laws of optics. Nice concept well executed. It would be fun to see the image in the mirror flipped ... still showing her back but with left and right reversed.

cool manipulation, having the same image in the mirror is a unique take on the challenge. I also like the processing and tones on this.

09/17/2011 01:42:57 AM
this is cool...not to mess with your artistic integrity, but it feels odd to me, probably cause I don't fully understand your intent. I picture the reflection actually crossing her heart with the same hand some how.

This is really, really well done. The lighting is so soft!

The angle of the necklace is slightly different, which under most circumstances would never of been noticed. Great tones, nice work.

I think this is real. I'm guessing a second mirror (off camera) was used. Very interesting image with the key and heart pendants.
