Post Challenge:
Thanks everyone for taking the time to vote and comment.

Definitely surprised this got an HM, especially with all the great photos in this one.

My Abstract III shot was tanking so on the morning of the deadline, between 2 12 hour night shifts, I went out to take this shot. This is near my place and for about a month I passed by this abandoned sofa every morning during my daily walk. I was just waiting for an opportunity to use it in a photo.

I knew exactly what I wanted and on a last minute notice, I was able to get a friend to help me out with it, but he only had about 20 minutes so it had to be fast. Unfortunately this sofa, which is on the sidewalk along a busy road, had a huge cargo van parked right in back of it that morning. I almost gave up on the shot but my friend suggested moving this dirty old thing into the empty lot about 30 feet away. We set up quickly and snapped about 7 shots, this being the best of them. After about 4 hours of processing, this is the outcome. (I only got 2 1/2 hours of sleep between the 2 long shifts...I was exhausted that night at work).

The best part about the shoot was all the people stopping and staring at us. This is right on a main road, during rush hour commute. It's very warm here and there's me in my coat and tie and my friend reaching into a trashed sofa...hehe. I'm sure everyone thought we were crazy but it was well worth it.

One of my favourite shots. Like the textures & the desaturated background.

The setting is just perfect, the grass, the "find".

"and right over here is where I was sitting, when I caught on fire and ruined the bottom cushions..." great processing, I could stare at this shot for minutes.

Good use of background to provide environmental content. I like the grunge processing and muted colors.

Nice sense of dislocation, and the partial DeSat works well.

Hah, I like how the jut on the left is wearing a full suit where pretty much everything else here is somewhat dilapidated.

I'd love it if you were both sitting on the couch, or behind it looking at the camera.

The split tones really work well here. Still can't quite figure out what you're doing though! Looking for treasure maybe?
