I had this shot in mind during the entire week of the Long Exposure challenge, but I never had a time to shoot for it. Good thing a similar challenge came up shortly and i finally was able to shoot the image that I wanted.

This image is part of a series of photos that I took on the last day of the challenge. I worked on the theme "Fast-paced society in slow motion." Long exposure shots with sharp and blurred subject combination. My original idea was to shoot at street level, with busy shoppers and tourists at our premier shopping district, but I did not have the ND filters to stop the bright daylight sun. I had to settle for the shots in the equally busy underground walkways and train stations.

I had a tripod with me, but everytime I try to use it, the people eventually become aware and they react differently, not to mention attracting security personnel.

For the shot above, I went one level higher for the vantage point, and placed my camera on top of the platform barrier.
For the rest of the series, I had to look for similar objects where I could place my camera. Sometimes, holding the camera with the strap stretched out from my neck actually works, except for the sideways movement which i try to minimize by not breathing while the shutter is open for the next 10 to 15 seconds :)

The rest of the series can be seen here on my flickr set.

12 hours remaining and im siting at 6.6.

Was really hoping this would do better. As in, high finish. With that score, i guess i'll just have to look forward to the next challenge.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments and the nice scores. Much appreciated.

nice shot, reminds me of Alexey Titarenko's "City of shadows" series. look it up if you haven't seen it, it's astonishing.

Congratulations on this great great image. It is creative, emotive, and extraordinarily well executed. I'm delighted to see it in the top 10. But I am devastated it didn't earn the blue.

I don't know why I forgot even to look at these entries before the turnaround.
I love the torrent of people. Keep musing if a crop of the top portion of the picture would not be beneficial.

Wow, lots of people for the motion blur. With such blur, it makes me think that "death" is descending.

Interesting effect in this photo. The people giving a fog like effect is something I've seen before, but not to this extent.
