Challenge: Botany (Advanced Editing II)
Camera: Canon PowerShot A75
Location: Back yard

Aperture: 4.0

Held a plant up against some shade in my backyard. The sun was setting and served as a back light for my subject. I figured it was a good way to show the leaves absorbing the suns rays. On the full size image. if you soom in you can see the little veins.

Meets the challenge very well, perhaps better than any I've seen so far. I especially like the composition. The various angles formed here by the branch and leaves suggest an esthetic and a science. The backlighting is brilliant and you've really brought out the veins of the leaves so well. The green agaisnt the black background really brings out the color in the leaves. The only improvement I could see is possibly less sharpening, as it appears possibly oversharpened. Very well done, nonetheless.

Beautiful. When the page first came up on my monitor, the bottom leaf was excluded due to the portrait crop and my attention was captured by the middle leaf on the right (deep shadow relief). It was some time before I realized I wasn't seeing the full image and scrolled down. Though it's a lovely composition, I almost think it would have been stronger with more negative space (the black background is extremely strong!). All in all, a beautiful photograph and one very worthy of a high finish!

Great lighting and setup. Black background is stunning with the green leaves. Composition could not be any better.
