Fairly nice composition, but the contrast is a bit too low. The photo seems washed out, with very harsh sunlight. Obviously, in the kinds of climates you find prickly pears growing, you will have strong sunlight to deal with, but photographing the subject in the dawn or dusk light would help this a bit. The shadows make this look like late afternoon or mid morning, times when the light will still be harsh.

An interesting choice of toning... I'm not 100% sure whether I like it or not in all honesty. What the heck, it's Christmas, let's just say I do like it :) It's nice & sharp, and doesn't look like something I'd want to touch.

Great composition..love the tufts on the cactus. I've actually picked and eaten prickly pear...kinda good :) I'd love to see this in color.

Sepia is nice but how did it look in color. I think I would prefer it that way as it shows more warmth than the sepia.

Neat shot! I question the sepia, but it's not bad. Interesting view. 8 Swash

Nice midtones and texture rendering. Perhaps a real square cropping would have done it as well.

Excellent composition, as well as the execution. The tonal range is superb, and the detail is outstanding. You can almost feel the textures of each part of the subject. Perfect, congrats!

I find this photo to be both visually appealing, and well composed. I absolutely love this photo, and the black and white looks wonderful. Also I think the black border adds to the photo.l Excellent macro! This photo meets the challenge and manages to be beautiful at the same time. No criticism here. -10

What excelent focus and clarity. The angle and framing/cropping are very nice. I think that the lighting was also very good for this shot. You have done an excelent job with this. One of my favorite this week. Good luck in the challenge.

challenge met. nice composition, it looks as if the fruit (?) is holding up the leaf above it. the long shadows work well here because i always associate cacti with hot climates and expect the sun to be beating down. i wonder what made you go for the sepia tones. possibly the colors in the background. w/out actually seeing it i can't say i'd prefer color, but i'm wondering whether i would...

Interesting subject and color. Composition works pretty well for me, but the shot is not high impact for me emotionally. 8

Nice shot. I like the sepia tone rather than straight black and white Teh border size is well done. overall great shot.
