Challenge: Doors, Gates, Knobs, Locks & Handles (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Nikon D300
Lens: Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED
Location: Avery Point Light House, Groton, CT
Date: Nov 10, 2011
Aperture: f4.5
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/80
Galleries: Black and White, Seascapes
Date Uploaded: Nov 9, 2011

I have been shooting daily during the fall season, mainly looking for foliage etc. as part of a project I have been working on recently.

One morning on my way to work I saw the clouds hanging over the Long Island Sound with the sun reaching out from under the cloud band. I decided to try my hand at capturing some seascapes and drove past my work and headed to the water.

Avery Point Light is a modern lighthouse that was first lit in 1944 at the Coast Guard Training Station here in Groton. It is a small light, only about 45 feet tall, but it is easy to access so I have used it probably 5-6 times for DPC entries.

I shot this with the crop and border in mind, trying to give this a very geometric appearance.

Special thanks to Bear_Music for sharing the great Nik Silver Efex preset "Forest Floor" some time ago. It is magical starting point for many of my favorite b/w conversions I have done in the past 6 months or so.

Thanks very much for the kind comments and votes during and after the challenge. It has been fun to hit the update button this week...

Makes me feel like if I open that door, I'll walk through some dimension into that magical place behind it.

Congratulations, well seen and processed. It's interesting, there is something about this image that sometimes makes it look like a scaled down version, having a low "Alice in Wonderland" door rather than a full height one!

Great crop and lighting. Is against the rules to clone out the white pipe?

Very nice, the stormy looking sky in the background adds to the mood; a very good and sharp image. I can see this ranking quite high.

Quite gorgeous, in my Top 5 for the challenge. Very dark and mysterious, but so intriguing, cant stop looking at it. The positioning of the sun behind the tower is perfect for this composition. Only thing I'd suggest is maybe to clone out the power cable by the door? Nonetheless, exquisite!
