I decided to take on this challenge to show the sacrifice of all the branches of the military. From the left is the Air Force emblem, to the right is the United States Army, on the center is the crest for United States Special Forces, to the right is the Marine Corp emblem, all the way to the right we have the United States Navy. The bottom three show the sacrifice each branch has done, to the right is a crest representing POW (prisoners of war) and MIA (missing in action) soldiers. In the center those soldiers killed in action, and to the right a purple heart. The flag is covered in red blood and dripping on the flag, to show the sacrifice given to the nation from our forefathers in the revolution war, civil war, WWI, WWII, korea, vietnam, to the Global war on terrorism.

I like the idea; but, it seems a bit busy. Perhaps the blown out area is too distracting.

I think the blood on the flag is a little clear and doesn't show as blood per se. I think the white balance is off as the white stripes are showing up orange. There isn't much detail in the medals. Perhaps a more over head viewpoint would help.

I understand what you were attempting to portray, but I find it very disrespectful to deface the US flag, even if it is for "art"...
