Challenge: HDR IV (Advanced Editing VII)
Collection: Challenges 2011
Camera: Canon EOS-7D
Lens: Canon EF 24-105mm f/4.0L IS
Location: Manhattan Beach Pier
Date: Nov 16, 2011
Date Uploaded: Nov 18, 2011

They were just putting the Christmas trees out on the pier. Probably a nice tree lighting ceremony later in the evening as well.

0.25, 0.10, 0.60 seconds for the exposures. Note that a couple of gulls stayed still the whole time. I'm quite pleased with the ghosted gulls - I think they're kinda cool.

A different frame, and non-HDR:

The colors really are quite gorgeous this time of year, though. And the challenge entry was taken well after sunset.

The color / tones here make this magical. I just love the seagulls and the reflections in the water.

Great shot. Beautiful tones and colors, and a wonderful scene with the gulls (great movement included), the pier, summer sunset colors and... Christmas trees?! This may be a very normal scene for you, but there's a nice unexpected twist to it for me. There's also something very organic about those pier stanchions, quite possibly because they're not just silhouettes. This should do quite well.

Christmas on the ocean, love the way the birds reflect the trees above.

This is gorgeous... love the birds and the reflections - kind of like what I wanted to do with pedestrians in NYC but much much much prettier! The color and light are fantastic.

Very cute how the gulls seem to flicker while the trees and lights are steady.

Seagull ghosts take away from the otherwise welldone image. Most HDR software has a way of removing the ghosts.

The birds almost mimic the trees up top. I like that we can see there was movement in some of them, as they appear ghostly. Nice. 7

water shot and lovely lighting very interesting gull movement. A real contender I think but it is as if a tad tilted? You might lose points on that but not from me though.
