A bowl of beef stew, a glass of milk and hunk of bread. I've lived off of variations of that during the cold winter months more often than I care to think.

OMG I finally got another ribbon!!! Sadly this time around, I'm not with Magnumphotography(aka Ryan / Red) :-/ so I can't celebrate like I did before. Ah well soon enough...

Thanks all who voted and for all the wonderful comments. Special thanks to Cheryl Mackie for letting me use the haunted third floor of her home and restaurant for the shoot.

Once the challenge was announced I knew exactly what I wanted to do, which was show a simple meal that may look plain to most but be a feast for the less fortunate.

The setup is a corner of the topmost floor. The restaurant has a Victorian theme to it so I liked that the lacey curtains were up in the window. And those stone walls are 3 ft thick!

All the props are mine. The tabletop is lightly sanded barnboard and placed atop one of the tables up there. The dish, spoon, napkin and glass mug all came from the local Sally Ann. I made the stew and brought along the milk but the loaf was donated to the cause by Cheryl :-)

Anyway...camera on tripod with mirror lockup and remote release used. Shot about 2 pm on a nice cloudy day so the light from the window was perfect for what I wanted. Used a reflector to bounce light into the shadows closest to the camera.

As for ghosts and spirit activity, I didn't see anything - mysterious floating orbs have been photographed in and around the restaurant, at different times by different photogs and gear.

But a few times I heard footsteps behind me (I was the only person up there), floorboards creaking and at one point, the setting on my camera was inexplicably changed from RAW to RAW+jpg basic. But as I sensed nothing malicious and nothing bad happened during the shoot, I wasn't scared.

On a final note, I am very glad to have ribboned with the 18-200mm, my faithful ol' workhorse of a lens :-)

I gave you a 9 but did not have time to comment and now, reading the story of the footsteps I can really tell you that I could hear them also while looking at your picture. It has the feeling of a wonderful offering for the departed ones. Overwhelming love. Congratulations.

Love the textures here. Seems a tad bit odd that the soup is in the middle of the table with the spoon, though. It makes me a tad bit off kilter. I want to see the edge and imagine that this is for me to eat.
