As I'm sure you discovered, glass globes are very difficult to get a good picture of. However, you got a great picture of this one! I think the shot would have been more effective if you'd set the globe on the white cloth used for the background, made the background smooth (the wrinkles / folds detract a lot), and kept the near side of the base in the frame. My wife tells me that you should only trim a subject symmetrically - that is, if you crop off part of the object on the bottom, you should also crop a bit off the top too - same for both sides, rather than just one.
