Challenge: Balloon II (Advanced Editing VII)
Collection: Portfolio
Lens: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Location: The roof of my office
Date: Dec 12, 2011
Aperture: 4
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/3200
Galleries: Black and White
Date Uploaded: Dec 13, 2011

For this shot I left my office a bit after 4pm and headed straight to the roof of the building with just a few minutes before the sun slipped below the horizon. If I had slipped out 10 minutes earlier it was substantially brighter. The yellow balloon did not catch the light as I had envisioned, but I liked the conversion to black and white. The darker tones fit my recent mood much better than the yellow smiley face. Thinking about the recent loss of my mother as we head into the holidays has put me in a bit of a funk that I am struggling with. Not much enthusiasm for taking pictures and not much holiday cheer. Hopefully I can level things out and slap on a smiley face soon. I'll get to spent some time with the family (including my two college kids soon home for the break) and I will always have many great Christmas memories of my mom. So, hopefully this image is me over the next few days -- smiling and headed up. Hopefully.

The alternative shot I considered was much more reflective of my recent mood:

Nice happy face is a good contrast against the grey tones - nice shot.

A very melancholy feel to the image and now I know why. So sorry to hear about your loss. Never a good time, but especially not this time of year.

Awesome. I love the streaks of water around the bottom of the balloon, and the particles jumping out. Those items really show the quality of detail you've surrounded your subject with, keeping it intersting. The strong shape of the balloon is immediately intriguing to the eye.

9/10.

There is something so odd about this image! In a good way. What are the spots around the bottom?

Wow. I love this. I'd have taken just a tad off the top and cloned out the spots on bottom and on the balloon, since this is Advanced Editing Ruleset... but really... I love this!
