Emergency! Image all completed and there's NO WAY I'm entering a challenge with reference to that song (My apologies if you love the song I'd picked out... it's just TOTALLY not me). ("Scream, Aim, Shoot")

So... I searched... and searched. Finally found this.

It's not me either... but I never expected to find an "uplifting country music ballad that leaves one smiling every time" in the Heavy Metal song list. *grin*

The Pollyanna in me really did hope though... LOL!I don't do Heavy Metal music... never have... but had fun with son anyway, after asking him to do target practice on our property today.

WHY do people LISTEN to that stuff? No WONDER folks bang their head against the wall. LOL!!

It's so totally not uplifting. *rolleyes*

*sigh*

I'm a "Life is Good" kinda gal.

*shakes her head trying to get it all out of her mind*

He was kind enough to give me what I asked for even though I know he was bothered by me. LOL!

#2 and #4 were results of my asking for "give me 'scream' (for the first title I was shooting for) He couldn't give me "scream" without smiling, despite my corrections. He truly is a happy, good kid. He does enjoy target practice as a hobby... just like any kid has a goal to aspire to.

He doesn't want to kill people. *sigh* He just wants to be able to manipulate his object to score a perfect score. Much like manipulating a basketball into a perfect score.

There is no human involved. It's an object that he is competing with ... like a person with a camera. What skill can he bring to the gun? Can he hit the target?

He practices... with a paper target... and practices... then a bull's eye...

What makes this "camera" evil? It it that others use it to kill?

What makes the gun evil? Is it the intent of the user? Like a butcher knife ? Is the skilled cook evil because he serves a delicious salmon with the same knife that some use to murder humans?

DURING VOTING: Oh Golly! Now, I know that the Powers That Be who know what we've searched for on the Internet will be knocking on my door in the morning (or sooner) with handcuffs and guns drawn... Searching for Heavy Metal and Guns... and ... Oh ...

Goodbye, friends! Write to me...

DURING VOTING AGAIN: Okay. Really? 5.18 is the best you voters can come up with for this? You ARE remembering that this is a photography contest with a 'theme', right?

It's not a sub-average photo... right?

Is it a sub-average Photo-shopping?

I can't see major flaws... so... I'm guessing that personal opinions are involved here.

Come on, Folks! Get a life... and make it a happy one.

I have. You should, too.

It's just a photography contest... not a World View. LOL!

Ok... carry on... I hope someone will eventually comment and tell me why the votes are so low. Tell all. :D

No comments? Is this political? Or photographical? (is that actually a word?) *grin*

Post challenge:

Is it a Photography Contest? or not?

Take out the title (literary challenge) and the guns (political challenge)... and tell me about the image.

How was the image... technically?

How was the image... post processingly?

How was the image... emotionally?

What? Tell me about ... the image. Not world views ... not your opinion of the photographer and her raising of her children...

The Image.

Please. I want to know about the image.

Nothing else.

But... PLEASE! I do want to know about... the image.

Technically the image is fine. Nice seamless integration of multiple exposures/scenes, and I like the framing quite a bit, actually. The impact of a photograph, both positively and negatively, however, is more than the technical aspect of an image. Sure, you can have a pretty picture of a flower - THAT will get judged on technicals because in general, unless one has phobia, flowers are somewhat emotionally neutral. Introduce a controversial topic (and guns tend to be controversial) and now you have more than just the technical element. Now you have to take the good and the bad of the emotional response. And that's a good thing, even if it does bad things to your score. But like Ben says, this is too "pretty" for heavy metal, and definitely too pretty for the first title you chose (I did look up the lyrics to Scream Aim Fire) and not exactly suited to the the second title you chose. But technically, the image is fine!

OK. I'll take a crack at the score. . . I say you lost a 1/2 point for the guns at best. If one goes strictly by the title then yes it fits. However, it is too pretty and Mr. Rogers for Guns-n-Roses and heavy metal in general. No real feeling of angst or anti-establishment despite the guns, particularly son #2 and #4. Looks like he is playing and having fun. You definitely achieved a cinematic look which is why you pulled a 5.3 and not a 4.8. I guess guns kill.

On the technical side it's really ok but it doesn't tell any story and watching a so young guy with a gun and an aggressive look, well, it's disturbing, but I didn' vote. My vote would be 5. Just to explain my feelings :)

Ah yes. Children with guns. Always a top scoring subject choice! But I am kinda glad in a way that you get to see what the "why, when this is a competent photo, can I only get a 5.3 score" feels like. Sometimes I think Penny and I are the only ones who get that sort of treat! :-) Now if I could just get the "I HATE to shoot (insert something here) but I have to, so I will, and I'll ribbon!" feeling.....

I love all the different expressions... can't say I like guns, in general.
This is well done and fits with the song, IMO.

I wish there were more of a story connecting them

Definitely fits the title. A proper response. Let's see him pick off the balloons at the end of the day.

I can hear my Marine Drill Instructor now..."Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire", "Put that elbow down unless you want it shot off" ...
