 Sunrise light strikes the Chapel at St. Malo Retreat on the morning of the Winter Solstice. This is the day when the first rays of sunlight peak over the horizon and fall with warmth and softness on this historic and holy place. Mount Meeker looms in the background. An approaching snowstorm is visible coming over the mountains.

For those who don't know, the soft light of sunrise only touches this church during the time of winter solstice. Other times of the year, the chapel is shaded by mountains until midmorning.

Very legitimate critiques of the composition. But, the scene is now constrained by a cluttered background. So, the awkwardness in comp came from the need to crop out the evidence of the Nov. 14, 2011 fire.

This is a beautiful photo, but I'm not sure that mountain and chapels "go together" any more than hills and cabins or streets and houses. It feels like a bit of a shoehorn for the current challenge. Great picture though.
