 I got the idea for this from the Tilt Shift challenge. Somehow, the idea of climbing to the summit of a piece of cake had lots of appeal :-) I picked up the cake the day before the deadline and got lucky with the mountaineers at a model train shop. I had lots of trouble with the actual shot... the "snow" on the cake is desiccated coconut (added by me), of course then the mountaineers wouldn't stand up... so they got glued to a coin with honey (I was desperate... and wanted the cake to still be edible). The climbing peg is a match and the rope is twin-ply cotton.

I was hoping for a sunny day but it was thunderstorm central and no good for outdoor shots. The first attempt was in the living room with blue card held behind the cake to simulate blue sky. It took forever to find the right position for all the figures and choose the best angle (I don't have a macro lens and was cursing the fact). I was pretty happy with this set-up, but when I put the cake in the fridge it looked so much better. I put some raspberries in the background and voila :-)

Quite a few people asked what the cake was... it was some kind of nougat cake with marzipan and chocolate icing, and yes it was most delicious :-) The little people even had a piece too.

I was one of your 8's and didn't get a chance to comment during the challenge, but this is very well done and I'm suprised it didn't place higher...by the way...maybe it's becuase I gave up sugar for the new year...but that cake looks soooo good!

I usually don't go for the little men....but today I am very hungry!!!!!!!!!!!what's under the chocolate.....is that a layer of marzipan I see????????...what could it be? My salivary glands need to know! lolol

The pink thing in the background is a bit distracting, I'd have moved it before taking the shot or desatruated it during editing but overall, I really like this, it made me chuckle. Nice and crisp, cool little characters; it totally says celebration to me, since the little man on top looking like he's cheering, as well as the presence of cake. Cake is great for celebrating. Mmm..... cake.
