Photographer’s Notes
My highest scoring photo to date was a ribbon winner taken at the Suzzallo Library at the University of Washington. The building is straight out of Hogwarts which is to say it is a fairy tale structure – grand and imposing inside and delicately spired on the outside. At the suggestion of my WPL teammates and Brent_S, I shot it again for this challenge. Maybe it will escape voter fatigue if no other Seattle-ites shoot it. I hope so.

I have enjoying a couple of days off work. Some places they call this a weekend. I drove around Seattle looking for unusual buildings and shot a few. I googled ‘interesting buildings Seattle’ and found a few I tried to shoot. Damn, they don’t exist yet – still under construction. There’s a wonderful, whimsical, apartment building in Fremont called the Epi which I like tremendously and would have entered except for: 1) The day I shot it the weather was crappy; and 2) I am actually with the library shot.

I arrived on campus at noon, sat outside in the freezing cold an hour waiting for the damn library to open. My original concept was to shoot it full of students, with a very very slow shutter, so I would see shadows of the students milling around. This is a slack time on campus apparently as there were possibly 6 students in the library, four singles with their heads down, and a couple deeply (deeply) engaged with each other. So I had to be content with the hand I was dealt.

Anyway, it’s been awhile since I shot this. Possibly folks won’t remember my prior entry. And maybe it will resonate on an emotional level with voters!

Enjoy!!!

Very cool... love the silvery tones as it makes me hear the organ better ... BIG music, in contrast to the little guy, like maybe Bach Prelude and Fugue in C. Congrats on the ribbon!

Good use of symmetry and the human figure to illustrate the scale. If I think to the concept described by the title, I feel that a much closer view of the person, perhaps while gazing around at the imposing ceiling, could have conveyed the concept better. Good image.

Hey, MR. BAGHEAD: The only reason I am not writing you that you are going to blue is because I don't want to jinx it.

Stunning. I believe I've seen this before, and I had the same comment then as I have now - the tones are too even and too similar, without leading the eye in any particular direction. The chandeliers and the aisle help in that regard, but tonally, this could be far more interesting. I imagine that despite my protestations, this will finish near or at the top.
