Challenge: Pets and Their People II (Advanced Editing VII)
Camera: Canon EOS-5D Mark II
Lens: Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM
Date: Jan 24, 2012
Aperture: f/10
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/125
Date Uploaded: Jan 29, 2012

Lit them with a 27" Elinchrom Beauty Dish centered and pointing down at them at about 45 degrees. A 12"x50" westcott strip-bank with grids on from right behind them was used as a hair/rim light. Third light with a round bowl on and covered with an amber gel was hitting the black background to create the vignette effect. I had a round reflector sitting on the floor to fill in some of the shadows cast by the beauty dish.

Perfect lighting and very well composed. Only thing that doesn't look quite right is her eyes. Look a little unnatural too me (maybe my monitor?).

Ears up and everything; nicely done! Not the most emotive image in the challenge to me, maybe because it is so technically perfect. And posed. Gotta' admit I have a bias for unscripted emotion between pets and people (and no, my profile pic is not my favorite shot of me and my dog ). But this is beautiful. And if I were that dog's person I'd be over the moon to have something like this to hang on my wall.

How could one resist this challenge? Well lit and engaging. The rear caramel spot matches her 'mane' and the browns of her shirt and the pooch. Thoughtful work. Ribbon material...

Well done!

I'm guessing this is Johanna's or her equal. I love this. Perfection.

(actually, I think another is Johanna's... but this one is better. :D ) (not voting)
