Just came back to fawn all over this some more. I'm torn between wanting to know more about how this was done, and letting the magic be, well, magical. So happy this has such a fervent following.

No worries, I'll shamelessly praise him anyway. Amazing piece of work, yeah? Not surprised the winner didn't like it.

Your images never cease to amaze me Nick, how you scored less than me I have no idea, I guess it shows how little the score means - 16 favourites is pretty telling though :). Now I just need to sell my dslr and buy a galaxy s! I refuse to believe equipment means nothing =).

I love how I remember all these images but forget who did them, but this is a dear memory, even if they are headless.

what a capture! I particularly like the effect the movement of the heads has on the top of the water, but wow. this is good.

Great point of view. Love the umbrellas and the blurriness of the out-of-water portion. Don't like the black bar at the top (but I won't let that stop me from giving it a high vote).

Listen, I've had a bottle of wine to drink so far, so my opinion might not weigh in for much, but this is incredible. Easiest 10 and fav I've given for a while.

What a fun, bizarre capture! Your first instinct is umbrellas in the rain. But who has a glassed in pool? Anyway, love it.

Very intriguing image. The juxtaposition of the water tank and the umbrellas is interesting.

I admit of picking this up by the thumbnail, so maybe I did lose some of the surprise effect, but then it was a great surprise nevertheless. I like the many layers of it, at the story and the visual levels. The layering is vertical, horizontal and especially applicable to the depth dimension. The umbrellas, the wet glass and the lighting suggest a rainy day, although we know better. Decapitating the floating people confuses me every time I look, allowing me to regain breathing only after relocating the heads making sure they match the bodies.

Perhaps the most brilliant image ever taken. I'm so glad to see it here on DPC.

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: Well, I know this is you - but even if I didn't, who else could it be? Truly one of those pictures that make the rest of us look a bit silly - masterful in every sense. I have to say before you put this image up my favourite image on DPC was one of RKT's:

It's 3 year reign is now ended. Sorry Rachel (though I have a feeling she won't mind one bit).

So, why do I like it so much? I wish I knew, but I suspect it's about the juxtapositions - visible water where it's dry, none where we know it is wet, low contrast below, high above, sharpness without clarity above, softness with clarity below; then of course there are the absent heads and the great puzzles of 'where are they?' and 'where are you?' when you are taking the shot. But most of all the parasols looking like umbrellas against the rain you have created for us - a storm perhaps; one that the voyager and his servant are blissfully unaware as they cruise serenely and without a care (for they have not the apparatus to support such thought) as they make their way through the protective realm of the sea.

Critical stuff: I wouldn't dare.

Overall: Spectacular - 10 of course.

Very interesting image. Makes the user wonder many things. Most pointant is... why are those two swimming down the center of the road... and why is the photographer in a partially submerged car? Would love to know the story here.

Not really understanding this shot, and in this case I donĀ“t find it a benefit, I just look at it and feel the bottom part is taken at another place than the top part.
