John - these scenes are always really compelling but here, strangely, it is that breaking wave rather than the fishermen that draws my interest - not a bad thing, but unexpected. The bird is surprisingly prominent too. The glowy rendition reflects your work and once again you have judged it well. My brain tells me the men are over sharpened but my eyes don't reveal much when I scrutinise closely.

Great scene - well made.

Unique scene (to me, anyway). Fascinating, even with the figures relatively dark. I'm glad that you chose to show me the bigger picture, with the crashing surf and brooding clouds and empty poles.

Wow. Such an interesting display for those of us who've never witnessed this. Plus the rich tones and composition and so good - it just sparkles with life and color. Love it.

Not something you see every day in downtown New York... Very nice use of B&W.

Wonderful B&W and an interesting capture of a great favourite with photographers :) The silhouette and rhythm of the waves works great, I can almost hear the rumble of the sea, very dynamic scene.
Whether is running though the sand or washing around people, the sea is always a good friend to photographers, but an harsh master to fishermen.

What a cool view. I like how you gave us a glimpse into something exotic (to most people) but what is mundane for these fishermen.

Wonderful composition. I think a slighty more "straight-on" angle may have benefited you here. Just an opinion, because this is a very strong image. Well done!

That bird! Magic! The timing of the small wave in front as it crashes - perfection.
Nice silhouettes and comp.

How nice to see such a well-taken shot of this unusual practice, taken in Sri Lanka? The b&w tones are good, exposure is perfect, nice clear overall focus. Very good work.

Great processing here; the deep blacks work very well with the image.
(from the processing and letterbox border I would guess this is Bear_Music but I'm not sure..) I was sort of doubting he had gone to Sri Lanka...

The best parts are the single gull in the distance and that wisp of water breaking over in the foreground. Excellent balance, both on their parts and yours.

The darkness of the waves and sky really frame the fisherman. I've spent a long time looking at this one. Intriguing.

Perched on high above the ocean waves,
early morning chill these men brave.
Time and tide marks the hours.
They patiently fish from their wooden towers.

This is an absolutely wonderful capture of a slice of life of another culture!!! I love the fishing action of these men that range from sitting, casting the rod, and standing. Wonderful details and the B&W is excellently done; tones are very dynamic. Photo is akin to something I could see in National Geographic magazine...I just love learning new things and seeing new places.

love the contrasts and composition. This is a good example of where ignoring the rule of thirds regarding horizon placement makes the photo better.

I love the deep contrast but it has made their faces too dark, and I believe their faces are important in this instance.
