Model: Peggy Abrams

At the end of a long day of shooting on the Santa Monica Pier, I took a break from editing to check the upcoming challenge titles on DPC and realized this might work for the 50 ways challenge.

I had proposed the idea of the shower to Peggy while we were doing our reconnoiter of the place, suggesting that we do it at the end and that she get all wet, having all the shower heads going at once. She was totally for it. Of course, with the sun in full force, I'd need a pretty powerful fill, which an off-board flash might have provided. But I've had notorious poor luck with them and have always wanted to try studio heads on location. Of course, powering them has always presented a problem. Until now :-)

I am particularly delighted with the result because I got to test drive a new piece of equipment - my mini-vagabond portable power pack. I brought one of my cheapie studio heads to use with the pack. It worked like a champ. After getting the lighting just right, the settings correct, rehearsing the poses, the order of poses we'd try, etc. we were ready for some shots. She pressed the button on the shower and nothing came out. She pressed another, and then another, and none of them produced ANY water. [Apparently, they turn the water off during the winter (it was 80 degrees, and obviously there was danger of the pipes freezing....), and the water we did get early on was whatever was left in the pipes.] We did not get a single planned shot. This was one of the very earliest test shots, which fortunately still had water. And I thought her expression and body language was priceless.

What an awesome surprise!!! I'm so grateful for your marvelous comments and generous votes. I seriously did NOT think for a moment this would ribbon. Top ten, maybe...

Peggy is over the moon about this. And we're both endlessly amused by the irony of the Universe: she sent out her divorce papers the morning of rollover...

I've been chuckling at a lot of the entries in this challenge; many of them seem to revolve around humour. This one made me feel sad because she looks really lost and heartbroken IMHO. Really nice job of creating a mood.

I like the general idea, reminds me of South Pacific 'Gonna Wash That Man Right Out', that's probably deliberate? I'm not keen on this kind of soft-focus look processing, just personal taste though.
