Swamp Bluet (Africallagma glaucum) ± 21-23 mm (Damselfy)
Changing subject this week. I went to the local bird reserve (non-captive birds) but nothing was co-operating so I started hunting for macro's. The butterflies danced away, the spiders crawled frightened behind the closest leaf. Must be that big ass 180mm Macro I was pointing at them.

So I stepped into the stream feeding the lake and waited, when this little fella, <1" of him from tip to tail settled on a stalk. I crept up, aimed, got 1 OOF image (and too big an aperture) and then a bunch of kids came and asked what I was doing...chased off the Bluet and destroyed the last hour of the afternoon for more opportunities :)

Star Burst Filter Courtesy Topaz Labs just for some fun and to take the "focus" off the OOF eyes.

Awww, these guys are so beautiful. Thanks for such a fine image.

Yeah, those little guys (and big ones too) with the "Whatcha doin?" "Watcha got?"
I know it's curiosity and interest, but still, sometimes aggravating.

Well, you got your picture, anyhow.

Great capture. I like the details of the wings. The star burst ads an interesting effect.

Great shot Harvey, and I love the star burst. It's an interesting plug in that one, I've got it too. Never thought of adding it this way. I love the simplicity of your composition, how you have the branches coming out from the side, and your placement of the bug. Wonderful colour all over, especially in your subject. Michele ps liked your story too

Oh, yes, now that you mention it, the eyes are a bit out of focus. With that in mind, the star effect does take focus off of that aspect. I'm still not a huge fan of the star, though. But the colors and overall detail of the rest of the bluet are beautiful!

Yep, the star really takes the focus off those eyes! But it is a very accurately and nicely placed star :) Just a bit of fun really.

I was bored Matt. And the eyes were really OOF. Got a copy of Topaz Labs latest plugin Star Effects today.

I could do without the star filter, however I love to photograph those little guys. Although very easy to scare them off, I enjoy the hunt.
