Biography: |
Born in San Diego, California, Bryan Lanning always had a passion for the arts. His artistic career began first with music, being the youngest child ever to compete in the Idaho Children's Opera and the only known 3rd grader to participate in 4th grade choir at Carberry Elementary. Front and center is where the choir directors always seemed to place him. His hard work and determination, however, left him over stressing his still-growing vocal chords, now plagued by polyps forcing him to resign from the Idaho Childrenâs Opera and taking a break from music.
Bryanâs passion for technology took him to Boise State University, where he pursued a major in Computer Science. He found no creativity or passion, however, and dropped all his programming and math courses, signing up instead for art and photography classes.
Bryan is currently pursuing a degree in Graphic Design with a minor in photography at Boise State University. He resides in downtown Boise, Idaho with his wife Melissa. In his free time, he photographs the people of beautiful Boise, Idaho and loves exploring all the city has to offer -- whether it be exploring the Kuna caves or hiking up Tablerock Cliffs.
On Photography: Someone once said, âBuying a Nikon doesnât make you a photographer, it makes you a Nikon owner.â When I bought my first digital camera, it was completely obscure to me. I was still immersed in mathematic and programming courses, and was yearning for a different way to express myself. Digital photography was my next endeavor, and as I learned about my camera and composition, I fell in love with the medium.
But I wasnât going to call myself a photographer just because I owned a digital camera (my first camera being a Nikon D3000, funny enough). I explored photography through experience and self learning, reading any books and articles I could find on the subject.
At Boise State University, Art 251 - Intro to Creative Photography, taught me even more than I already knew. I learned how to work manually with 35mm film, processing and printing with enlargers. It was a hands on experience that I was completely impressed with. It struck me then that digital photography should be just as hands-on as 35mm photography.
This idea of it being a âhands-onâ experience is something I take with me everywhere now, especially when Iâm photographing. |
