Biography: How I Score: I start be reviewing all the thumbnails to get the lay of the land and to get a sense of what to expect. The thumbnails often do not truly represent the larger image, but it is a good starting point.

I will pick a picture which intrigues me, and start rating. I will often provide comments, but not always.

What I look for in a photograph:
    Composition-wise, the image must
    - be a photograph and not a simple snapshot (from my limited exposure to the talent on this site, the snapshots really stand out)
    - follow basic design elements:
    -{ Space
    -{ Line
    -{ Colour - or not
    -{ Shape
    -{ Texture
    - responsibly address any irritating factors, such as out of focus/blurry or background objects coming out of the side of the subject, etc.

    Technically:
    - The composition - see space and shape above
    - The exposure - subjective based on the image
    - The use of light - shadows, highlights - they are all important
    - Depth of field - this is one of my pet peeves, personally and when I look at others images.

There is always a photo were the above guidelines are intentionally broken - I seek those, and give them high marks... :-)

After rating some images, and sadly giving some low marks, I felt inclined to write this up, and I will likely edit it as I go. If I gave you a low mark, please remember, this is only my opinion, don't take it to heart. Especially if you are a beginner.

I rate things like my photographer teacher taught me to, sorry.
