Eight Ball -- Corner Pocket by langdonComment by Covert_Oddity: I love the fact that this photo is still the highest rated in the site. I think if that ever changed the whole place would collapse and everyone would go away and stop taking photos!
This photo in a way is a testimony to how the site has evolved for good and bad. There's not a single vote below 5, because the very worst people thought about it is, it's reasonable, and clearly this was still an era where people voted purely on what they thought of it. That just wouldn't happen now, even if someone submitted the perfect photo (if there is such a thing)!
On the other hand, it's not a photographic masterpiece is it? I probably wouldn't ever come back to it if it wasn't the top raking photo. There must be hundreds if not thousands of photos submitted over the years that are both technically and artistically better than it, but none of them have beaten it, and that is testimony to just how much the standard has increased. This is proof, if it were ever required, that people vote photos relative to the rest of the field.
Well done Langdon, for not only having the top ranking photo to this day, but for giving us a site that has inspired so much skill, art, learning, debate, happiness, anger and most of all, photography! |

Sharonby langdonComment by Melethia: 'Tis always good to see loved ones through they eyes of those that love them. She really is a beautiful woman - you did her justice! But by all means, keep shooting her. :-) |

Sharonby langdonComment by Art Roflmao: I gave the photo a strong 6, but I'd give the young lady a strong 9. (10s don't really exist) :)
Congrats on the 1000th challenge, Langdon. |

Sharonby langdonComment by Yo_Spiff: Great to see that you entered the shot that you knew may not get the killer score. You entered the one that had some meaning to you. Kudos for setting the example.

Sharonby langdonComment by MilesW: Lovely portrait and the lighting is nice on her face. I might have done some slight PP on the hands (although not as much as the face) to warm the colours up a touch whilst not detracting from the main area around the face. |

Sharonby langdonComment by gaurawa: back for comments. A lot of distractions in the image.. you could clean up the background a little or crop out dark regions which don't add anything |

Sharonby langdonComment by Dr.Confuser: Don't assume that because you have an affinity for your subject, the rest of the world will too. Otherwise, a good workmanlike photo. |

Sharonby langdonComment by aKiwi: Very nice portrait, however I find the background a little distracting. Also a little fill flash to add a catchlight / glint to the eyes would help |
