Comment by whagerbaumer:
This looks like it could be quite an interesting subject. The lighting and contrast combine to make this image very muted.

A 2.

You didn't follow the 2nd part of the challenge - "and then look for ways to compose an interesting picture around it".

Comment by cghubbell:
The background seems to distract from the subject by not having enough contrast. The image would benefit from a better light source as well. It also looks like the scale needs to be rotated slightly. The final suggestion I'd make is that this shot is what I would call a "memory picture", which is in contrast to an artistic picture. For example, if this were an old barn, it might have been interesting to have the scale slightly off-center with more of the background in the shot, but with a depth of field that slightly obscured any objects hanging on the walls.

Nice subtle lighting. Soft colors are pleasant to look at.

Comment by CDS:
IMO - this needs more light and the focus seems a little soft.

Comment by alanbataar:
The lighting is really dull -- you could move the subject to a sunny windowsill, or even take it outside for strong natural light.
