Meets the challenge IMO. Lighting is to harsh, (try bouncing the flash if possible) and the composition leaves something to be desired, IMHO.

imo, this needs something more, I really can't say what, I'm no professinal, but just something to give it that, "hey look at me" I think the lighting could have been better and I think the shadows on the wall are a little distracting. I do like the angle at which the pic was taken though.

I think the angle is too straight on. You should have moved up some to get more of the record and the arm playing it.

Yup, it's speaker wire. The severely blown out background and (IMO) not all that exciting subject really hurt. One good thing...focus is nice.
