Greetings from the Critique Club

I am happy to get this great shot to critique! You did a great job with the Shallow DOF, your photo meets the challenge perfectly. Now for my attempt to help you to score better:

I notice that the focus is a little soft on the subject (this was possibly on purpose), this can cost some points with the voters. I believe that the contrast could be bumped up a little bit. Your shot was taken in the middle of the day where the lighting is not always desirable, (I know that this was when the opportunity presented itself) however the voters here score photos taken at dawn and dusk higher since the lighting creates a more dramatic impact.

I really like your shot and believe that it should have scored higher.

Keep shooting shots like this one and you will ribbon soon.

Just back for some comments...
How did you manage to find all of those birds posing so nicely for you? The composition is great with the line of posts and the railing both leading into the focal point. I think the only thing lacking in this picture for me was the dull color. The swan biting the duck's tail on the right is also kind of silly! I gave this one a 9. Good luck!

7- great shot, could use cropping on the top to the farthest blurred gull or just past the grassy area, and from the right to the closest blurred gull, maybe slight brightening and contrast

Needs a bit more color, perhaps boost the saturation a bit. Watch the vignetting.

Wish this had slightly more contrast, it appears very flat and a tad soft? Also the vignetting in the top two corners is distracting, perhaps from a filter or hood on the lens?

alittle more contrast and i think it would've brought out alittle more detail in the moss

8 - This is very nice. Very nice capture, especially of the color. Criticism; though I do like the soft detail on the moss/lichen(?), even more detail on that texture would make that stand out even more in my opinion. I like the background of canopy. I like the crop, especially with the perspective bottom left, but maybe a slightly sharper angle, or just more detail as described above, including on the 'new growth', may have made this a better shot in my opinion.
