Lindsayby ragamuffingirlComment by jaysonmc: I like the feeling of this shot. I think just a bit more light in the face would have made this a real contender. Still love the pose and nearly everything about the shot. |

Lindsayby ragamuffingirlComment by SaraR: I like the idea behind this portrait, but do wish that the child was looking directly at the camera - that way she would echo the 'stare' of the sunflower. The background would be better if the trees weren't visible - would you have been able to have a clear sky if you had taken the photo from 40 degrees or so clockwise? Nonetheless, lovely skin tones. |

BTW, this would make a nice subject for the Architecture challenge. :)

Chloe-009.jpgby ragamuffingirlComment by Prof_Fate: Best one yet - crop in a tad more - lose the fornt part of the dress as it is distracting to the eye. Still need a hair or kicker light to seperate her frmm the BG. it is generally aimed from above or possible the side to illuminate her from behind (this keeps the light off the BG) but puts a slight highlight on the background side that give pop. Done well it's barely noticeable, but leave it out and it's obvious it's missing. |

Bored on a Rainy Dayby ragamuffingirlComment by ubique: Originally posted by BobsterLobster: Silhouettes not clear enough. The horizontal line near the centre cuts through boys' heads and makes photo less effective. |
Arggggh! Two of the things I most liked about it! The less-than-silhouette treatment established a connection, a small but significant bridge, between the boys and their longed-for outside world; an effect wholly sympathetic to the point of the photograph. Likewise, the horizontal bar serves a useful figurative purpose, too: it is a barrier between the two worlds, reinforcing the fact that they are prevented from going outside. The bar also physically connects the two boys, although this is hardly necessary in appreciating their shared yearning.
I suppose if your ambition is limited to making a graphically impressive (and technically 'correct') image, these things might be viewed as flaws; but if you are interested in producing a more durable and more thoughtful photograph, they are worthy inclusions. |

Aphroditeby ragamuffingirlComment by pineapple: I like the pose and lighting. Even the artifacts add something. I voted pretty low on this image - but on second looks I would have given it a higher grade. It's all too easy to vote high marks for images that leap into ones eyes. But ones which have some sort of subtle rendition get overlooked. I must improve my voting skills... |
